6 Direct Sales Tips I Wish I Knew Before Starting My Business

Image
6 Direct Sales Tips I Wish I Knew Before Starting My Business I was at dinner with some friends a few nights ago, and an interesting topic came up. One friend asked what advice or tip would we give our younger selves if we could. Well, that got my wheels turning as I was laying in bed that night. I don’t sleep well, like ever. My brain has a hard time shutting off, so I replayed that conversation in my head. What would I tell myself? And then that stream of inner-dialogue went to my business. What would I do if I could start over? What tips do I wish I knew before I signed up? Wow. That’s a totally loaded question. That engine in my head just went from a Geo Tracker to a freaking Ferrari! I grabbed my phone and started jotting down ideas. Holy crap! The ideas were FLYING! Once I finally got the brain to calm down, I called it a night. But I woke up with the same excitement! I spent my morning reaching out to other friends in direct sales to ask them what they wish they knew bef...

Utilizing Facebook Algorithm

The Signals Facebook Considers When Ranking Your Content One massive takeaway from Adam’s keynote was “the most critical input into what you see in your news feed is who you decide to friend and what [pages] you decide to follow in the first place.” This makes sense, as these critical inputs will largely determine how Facebook interprets the myriad of signals it looks at when ordering a news feed that’s most relevant to your interests. Some of the specific signals that will affect your ranking on Facebook include: Who posted a story Frequency of posts from that person / publisher Previous negative feedback on an author Engagement https://www.facebook.com/RisingStarsEvents/ Average time spent on content How to Optimize Your Content for the Facebook Algorithm As marketers, you always want your content to be seen by as many people as possible, especially now that there’s more noise than ever before. Adam’s recent keynote has reinforced just how important it ...

Can You Really Build a Profitable Business in Direct Sales

Image
Can You Really Build a Profitable Business in Direct Sales There are many different ways to make money from home. When I first decided to walk away from my corporate career, I knew I wanted (and needed) some part-time work to help in paying the bills. Though I knew what  type of work I didn’t want to do (a part-time job outside the home), I didn’t know exactly what I  did  want to do. I immediately started browsing the work at home forums on mommy sites and found quite a few discussions on direct sales positions. I read all the information I could, especially the responses to questions like, “Can you really make money in direct sales?” I started researching thoroughly, and ended up joining three different direct sales companies over a two-year period. Though I’m not currently working in direct sales (I opted to start my own social media marketing busines s), I loved every minute of it. In case you may love it too, I’m sharing the results of my resea...

MANAGING REJECTION AT WORK

Image
Healthy Strategies for Getting  Past the  Pain of  Professional Rejection and  Forging On   Rejection is often a catalyst for determination, but if we don’t see it this way, in a beneficial light, as fuel that keeps us moving, then it can be the ruination of our dreams. Rejection can also turn into self-doubt and fear easily — so knowing how to handle rejection and turn it into a positively fiery force is something to be admired. For entrepreneurs, rejection starts early. It’s often the friend or family member who doesn’t like your business idea, the bank that won’t give you the loan, the vendors that think you are a risk to take on, or even the bloggers who are not interested in writing about you. The list goes on.  So how does one handle rejection like a boss? Fight the Inner Critic The inner critic comes out when rejection happens. It’s alive and kicking in all of us. But once the inner critic can be tamed, rejection is ea...

Are Entrepreneurs Born or Built? Or Both?

Image
Are Entrepreneurs Born or Built? Or Both? Are Entrepreneurs Born or Built? Or Both? By Howard Tullman I was part of a recent Oxford-style debate in Chicago where the proposition under consideration was that “Entrepreneurs are born, not trained.” It was the classic nature versus nurture type of heated argument between two pairs of seasoned senior executives and serial entrepreneurs. And truth be told, I think that each of the advocates in the debate except maybe my debate partner,  Amy Wilkinson , could have easily argued in favor of or against either side of the proposition. Amy herself was pretty hardcore on our side of the argument (we were the “built” team) and she had some pretty strong ammunition as well based on her most recent research in the field. In fact, the entire contest was especially informed and influenced by Amy’s participation since she, after five years of serious investigation interviewing dozens of hugely-successful company founders, had just publ...

4/5 CONSUMERS MORE INCLINED TO PURCHASE A BRAND AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA EXPOSURE

4/5 CONSUMERS MORE INCLINED TO PURCHASE A BRAND AFTER SOCIAL MEDIA EXPOSURE Social Media Exposure Explained Recent Research from an IAB study has found that consumers who have been exposed to certain brands on social media would be more inclined to make a purchase. From my own experience I feel that this statistic is accurate because a positive presence on social media can really help to gain the trust of your customer. The consumer might not buy straight away after liking your page but after a few posts, more social media exposure and increased trustworthiness the consumer will associate a positive image with your brand and can purchase your product. This study proves the power that a  good presence on social media  can have on your sales. Most people will only believe this statistic is so high because of the big brand they used however if it worked for the big brand there is no reason why it should not work for your business. Here are the top ways to maxi...
